Lawrence M. Riddles, MD, MBA, CPE, FACS, FACPE

Colonel (Dr.) Lawrence M. Riddles is the Command Surgeon, United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), Scott AFB, IL, and serves as the principal medical advisor to the Commander, USTRANSCOM. He ensures maximum wartime readiness and combat support capability of the global patient movement system within the Department of Defense transportation network, implements medical distribution process owner activities, and advises other combatant command surgeons on patient movement issues.

Dr. Riddles received his Air Force commission in 1977 after completing his electrical engineering degree through the ROTC Program at Tulane University. He continued on to complete his master’s degree in electrical engineering at Columbia University, NY, in 1978. Dr. Riddles earned his doctorate in medicine in 1982 from the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. In 1999, he completed his Masters in Business Administration from George Washington University, Washington, DC, specializing in finance.

Dr. Riddles completed his general surgery residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base and Keesler USAF Medical Center at Keesler Air Force Base.  He received additional fellowship training in thoracic and cardiac surgery at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester).

During his military career, Colonel Riddles has held positions as staff general surgeon, general surgery department chief, chief of surgical services, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine.  His military commands include: deployed air transportable hospital (Operation Desert Storm), two medical squadrons, two medical groups and an Air Force Headquarters Medical Field Operating Agency. He has taught clinical surgery at both the medical school and the post-graduate surgical residency levels.
