Alan S. Kaplan, MD, MMM, FACPE, FACHE, currently serves as the VP & CMO for the Iowa Health System, a $2 billion, integrated health system operating in seven major markets throughout Iowa and western Illinois. Additionally, Dr. Kaplan serves as the President & CEO of Iowa Health Physicians, comprising 300+ providers operating in 70 clinic locations.  Dr. Kaplan has general accountability for physician integration, quality, and health care transformation across the system. 

Prior to his current role, Dr. Kaplan served as the VP, Chief Medical Officer & Operations for Edward Health Services Corporation in Naperville, IL, for 14 years.  During his tenure, Dr. Kaplan was responsible for building relationships with a medical staff of nearly 1,000 members, developing clinical services, managing hospital departments, and leading information systems services.  Dr. Kaplan currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the American College of Physician Executives.

Dr. Kaplan received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in 1985. After medical school Dr. Kaplan completed residency training in Emergency Medicine.  He earned a Master of Medical Management at Carnegie Mellon University in 2000. Dr. Kaplan is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
