Begin taking Section I courses.

ACPE - Recognized by the American Medical Association as the specialty society representing physicians in management, the American College of Physician Executives is the nation's leading educational and professional association for physicians in health care management.

Choose your first course from the Section I curriculum and/or contact an ACPE Curriculum Planner to assist you in planning your schedule contact us or by phone at 800-562-8088.

The flexibility of ACPE's graduate programs comes, in part, from the different formats in which educational courses are available. For more than 30 years, ACPE live programs have set the standard in medical management education.

And since 1997, ACPE has delivered that same level of excellence in its distance education courses.

Earn Graduate Degree credit by testing.

Upon successful completion of each Section I course, you must pass a graduate test in order to receive credit toward your degree. Graduate tests confirm your course participation and function as a learning tool to help you review and reinforce course objectives. Click here for full instructions on testing.

Complete Section I

Continue taking courses and corresponding tests - in any order you wish - to complete the credit hour requirements for Section I of the graduate degree (link to Section I ). Upon successful completion of your Section I coursework, you will receive the Academic Achievement Award from ACPE to mark your accomplishment.

Transfer Credit

Candidates with graduate level academic coursework credit that has been graded and awarded within the past ten years are eligible to transfer up to 60 hours as a substitute for Section I courses. Acceptance of transfer credit is pending review of the course syllabus and candidate's transcript. Content must be duplicative of ACPE course content. Transfer credit for Section II courses is not generally available. There are two types of transfer credit: 1) Course and test waived. This type of credit is only given if you received a grade from the educational provider. 2) Course waived, test must be challenged. If no grade was received, you must challenge the exam to receive course credit. You have one chance to pass the exam (see testing section for information on taking tests). If you do not pass, you will be required to take the ACPE course. Contact a Curriculum Coordinator if you are interested in transferring credit.

Program Duration

The Section I ACPE curriculum can be completed in as few as 6 months; however, you have a maximum of seven years. Each student's schedule is customized to suit individual needs - you go at your own pace.

In addition, approximately one to one and a half years are needed to complete the Section II Master of Medical Management degree coursework and an average of to 2 years to complete the Section II online MBA in Medical Management. If necessary, the total time of completion may be extended.

Decide on a Degree & University

Decide which master's degree you wish to pursue and select your university. For the MMM: Carnegie Mellon University, Tulane University, or the University of Southern California. For the online MBA, the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At this point, you may apply with your chosen university to begin Section II of the graduate program. Application forms are available online at each university's website. The application and acceptance process varies with each university and approval is based solely on meeting the individual university's standards for their program.

To assist you in making an informed university selection, ACPE suggests:

Attend a graduate degree update session at an ACPE live event. Program Directors from ACPE's partner universities are available at these sessions to advise you on the distinctive content and features of each university's curriculum.

Confer with ACPE graduate degree alumni to learn about their experiences in the graduate program and their university selection process. Your ACPE graduate degree Curriculum Coordinators can put you in touch with alumni from the various universities.

Complete the Degree - Section II

Complete the required coursework for Section II of the graduate program as prescribed by your chosen university. Upon successfully fulfilling all Section II program requirements, you will receive your master's degree directly from your university.
