Test Instructions

Online Instructions - How does this work?

Tests may be taken only after you have completed the corresponding course. Exams vary depending on the date you completed the course - the correct version will be assigned to you during the approval process.

Time limits and number of questions

Exams range from 8 - 60 questions. While there is no time limit for completing your test, you must do so in one sitting. Most tests take approximately 45-75 minutes to complete. If you exit your session without clicking the "Finished with Test" button, your exam will automatically be submitted for scoring.

Submitting and Tracking Answers

Once you've chosen your answer to a test question, you must then click the "Submit Answer" button to proceed to the next question. It may take a few moments for the submission to register (depending on Internet traffic and your computer system's speed).

Skipping a Question

To skip a question, click the "Skip Question" button or simply click on the next question number.

Change Answer

To change an answer, make your new selection and click the "Submit Answer" button.

Marking a Question Uncertain

If you are unsure of an answer, you may make your best selection, then click the "Mark Question Unsure" button. When you reach the end of the exam, a list of the questions you marked unsure will be displayed. You may revisit a question by clicking on the question number. Change your answer if you wish, or submit the answer you originally chose.

Please note: If you do not go back and change your answer, your original selection will be recorded as your final answer when you click on the link to "End the Test."

Return to a Previous Question

Beneath each question are two lists of numbers. The first displays questions you have answered. The second lists unanswered questions. You may return to any question by clicking on its number in a list.

Completion of Test

When you have completed the test, click the "Finished With Test" button to exit the exam. At this point, you will no longer be able to return to the exam or change your answers. An evaluation form will be displayed for you to complete and submit. If you prefer, you may close your browser without completing the evaluation. Either action will end the exam session.

Receiving Your Test scores

Your test score will be sent to you via e-mail almost immediately after you submitted your completed exam. The passing score is 55% and above. To view the average scores by test, click here.

Registering for Multiple Tests

When you use the same name and e-mail address to register for multiple tests at one time, you must also use the same password for each registration.

Technical Tips

Internet Service Providers & Browser Compatibility Computer/Server Failure

These tests were designed to work with Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers. Although some users find other browsers acceptable, we cannot guarantee full navigation within tests. The browsers can be found for downloading at the www.microsoft.com and www.netscape.com web sites, and both will work with AOL version 3.0. If authorization to begin the test is denied, check your confirmation e-mail message to ensure that you have entered the information correctly.

Submission of Insecure Data Notification

If you receive a warning message when you submit your first answer, please click on "Don't Show Again" option to disable warning for the duration of exam.

Computer Server Failure

If for some reason out of your control [i.e. power failure, computer crash, server error, phone line failure], you are unable to complete the exam once you have begun, please notify ACPE at (800)562-8088 or e-mail ACPE.

Internet Traffic

The speed of the system varies greatly among users for reasons that are difficult to control. Email the staff to explain the difficulty and other arrangements for completing the exam can be made.

Re-booting

Often a quick re-boot of the internet browser or pc will solve technical glitches. However, if this does not solve your problem, please email the staff for other solutions.

If authorization to begin the test is denied, check your confirmation e-mail message to ensure that you have entered the information correctly.

If still unable to enter the exam area please call ACPE at (800)562-8088 and inform them of the problem so that it may be corrected.
