The Master of Medical Management at Carnegie Mellon
Leadership
Physician executives must motivate and manage people in ways that create and maintain organizational excellence. The
key to motivating individuals and teams to high levels of performance is the use of communication skills and leadership influence in ways that support the organization’s mission.
Strategy
Sound strategies ensure an organization’s ability to carry out its mission and meet the needs of its stakeholders, clients, and partners. Physician leaders who build a strong understanding of health care economics and finance, marketing, federal regulations and policy, competitive analysis, and planning are better positioned to exercise effective strategic guidance for their organizations.
Information Technology
Information technology profoundly affects all levels of health care organizations, from patient care to administrative functions. Physician executives must understand that technology to fully exploit the opportunities for improving quality and decision-making.
MMM Format
The MMM is divided into two sections - ACPE requires Section I as a pre-requisite for Section II. Section I courses are available through ACPE. Section II is completed through the university.
Section II
MMM Degree Sessions
Courses in the MMM program are organized to take advantage of the work experiences that students bring to the classroom. The program pursues a professional, problem-solving approach to learning that combines theory with practical tools and real-world application.
The program layout is a combination of on-campus residential sessions and distance learning course work that allows the physician to pursue a full-time degree while continuing to work in an unrelenting industry. Over a period of 18 months students will complete distance-learning courses and attend four, four and a half day on-campus sessions.
