Vanguard

Leading the Way

ACPE has created a new classification of membership – The Vanguard Member. Vanguard recognizes those College members who have demonstrated a commitment to medical management that places them on the forefront of health care leadership.

Who are the Vanguard?

The Vanguard consists of ACPE members who are either Fellows or Distinguished Fellows, have attained the Certified Physician Executive (CPE) designation, or who possess advanced management degrees. Vanguard Membership recognizes their experience, education, achievements and on-going dedication to the field of medical management.

What does it mean to be part of the Vanguard?

They are recognized: A customized education/networking gathering at ACPE’s Spring Institute and Annual Meeting. The Vanguard Meeting is by invitation only and addresses the current issues in medical management and executive development. The session also includes plenty of networking and growth opportunities.

They are connected: A private, on-line Network is in place where Vanguard Members can discuss/debate the issues and challenges of being an experienced physician executive. They are also updated on the latest career advancement opportunities. They are consulted: Because the Vanguard represents the “upper echelon” of medical leaders, their advice and counsel are sought by the Board of Directors to help plan the College’s future direction.

They share their expertise: Vanguard Members serve on Review Panels, analyze and abstract topical discussions, write articles for ACPE publications, and represent the College at local events and with the media. To assist them, they are coached to be better writers, make powerful presentations and prepare to be full or part-time consultants.

How can you join the Vanguard?

Attain Board Certification in Medical Management by becoming a CPE. Certification is awarded based on a candidate's stature as a physician, educational achievements, medical management experience and completion of a four-day, skill-building Tutorial administered by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management. This is also the pathway to Fellowship.

Become a Fellow of ACPE . The Council of Fellows bestows this honor on physician executives who have held membership for at least two years, have become a CPE and demonstrated that their knowledge and experience have acquired regional or national stature.

Earn an advanced degree in management with ACPE’s Graduate Degree Program or though the appropriate curriculum at recognized colleges and universities.
