Course Description

There is a looming knowledge crisis in healthcare. Over 150,000 new articles are published in the literature each month, and it takes over 15 years to translate new knowledge into best practice. An overwhelming amount of information is flooding into clinician hands with very few effective ways to manage, disseminate, and utilize that information. This course provides a pathway for establishing realistic processes to get the best information in the right hands at the right time.

• Understand knowledge management: how knowledge governance, cognitive fit and knowledge engineering are key to managing information successfully.
• Explore how technology is being used in knowledge management: vendors vs. "home-grown" efforts.
