Carnegie Mellon

The Heinz School

The mission of Carnegie Mellon's H. John Heinz School of Public Policy and Management is to advance the public interest through research and education that strategically combine policy, management and information technology. We conceive of policy, management, and information technology as the vertices of an equilateral triangle that are mutually reinforcing.

Most universities located the vertices of this triangle in separate schools, isolating these vital areas from one another. We see great advantages in integrating these perspectives to create new ideas, solutions, and innovative educational programs that serve the public interest. We also firmly believe in the value a diverse community brings to that creative process.

When the Heinz School was established in 1968, one of the principal goals of its founders was to create executive leadership programs. The school recognizes the importance of life-long learning, continuing education, and professional development needs of those already in the workforce.
