Course Description
In a paperless healthcare system where is your liability? This course examines the issues particular to EMRs, including patient privacy, medical malpractice, patient access, and security. Learn how an EMR may impact an investigation of billing practices and how to evaluate incentives offered to physicians who demonstrate “meaningful use” of an EMR.

Target Audience
This CME activity is intended for physicians and other health care leaders who wish to learn liability issues related to EHRs including patient safety, billing practices and meaningful use. This is a course in the Health IT Leadership Certificate and an elective course in the degree and certification prerequisite curriculum.

- Address liability issues particular to EMRs, including patient privacy, medical malpractice, patient access, and security protection;

- Evaluate current incentives offered to physicians who demonstrate “meaningful use” of an EMR.

Evaluation Method
Each ACPE CME activity includes an evaluation process to determine that the learning objectives have been met and that the activity was of educational value to the target audience and was unbiased. The evaluation also assesses whether or not the CME activity resulted in a change in physician practice behavior and offers participants a method of feedback.
