Health Care and Information Security Threats
Course Description
As health care providers continue to leverage technology to improve patient care and services, the need to carefully protect data grows greater. This course will explore current and emerging trends in health care security, privacy, and regulatory compliance. It will discuss the challenges of maintaining secure health information technology networks, the current regulatory framework for health information security, including HIPPA, and the tools available to heath care leaders to be guardians of sensitive patient information.

Target Audience
This CME activity is intended for physicians and other health care leaders who wish to explore current and emerging trends in health care security, privacy and regulatory compliance. . This is a course in the Health IT Leadership Certificate and an elective course in the degree and certification prerequisite curriculum.

- Examine security and privacy concerns arising from nationwide electronic medical records systems
- Learn reasonable and appropriate electronic protected healthcare information safeguards
- Describe risk based health care governance models and recognized practices to comply with the intent of HIPAA and other regulatory demands
- Examine the relationship between DHHS,CMS, the Office for Civil Rights, the FTC and how regulatory compliance is being enforced

Evaluation Method
Each ACPE CME activity includes an evaluation process to determine that the learning objectives have been met and that the activity was of educational value to the target audience and was unbiased. The evaluation also assesses whether or not the CME activity resulted in a change in physician practice behavior and offers participants a method of feedback.
